The Calm Waters mission is to help children and families in their grief journey caused by death, divorce, or other significant loss.
Calm Waters was founded and began at Baptist Medical Center in 1992, with the leadership of Charlotte Lankard, LMFT, Jason Woodruff, and Sondra Woodruff.
The organization was inspired by Jason Woodruff, who at 9 years old, suddenly lost his father. At a young age, Jason longed for an organization that helped grieving kids, like him, in Oklahoma. The organization name ‘Calm Waters’ comes from Jason’s memories sailing with his father, and taking shelter in calm waters for safety.
Calm Waters is a non-profit and non-faith-based organization that provides free grief support to children and families after a death, divorce or other significant loss. The services they provide are: free support groups, private pay counseling & consultation, workplace crisis services, and more.
Since their start in 1992, Calm Waters has served more than 50,000 individuals within the greater Oklahoma City metro.
